1.  Hec-kah-ton1  (Dryman) born 1780 died 1840.

           

Issue:

i.  Wah tee zhe 2      Joseph Lane  b. 1808; d. 1865

ii.  Mary2    b.  1814

 

Notes:

Hec-kah-ton an hereditary chief served as principal chief from 1818-1840.

Also known as Dryman.

Full Blood Quapaw

Married to unknown Quapaw and later in life married to Manta’ isan ni.

Younger brother was Petan  ktqi means Approaching Summer who was Ms Mary Stafford’s father.

2. Wah tee zhe 2  aka Joseph Lane2 (Hec-kah-ton1  )       b. 1800  d. 1865;  He married (1) Ma Jange’ aka Onions Smell Strong b. 1812 d. 1843  married (2) Ta gah Quapaw  b: 1844 Died 5/22/1903   (3)  Me-ah ca on 1/18/1860

Both were Full Blood Quapaw

4.  George Lane3   (Wah tee zhe2 , Hec-kah-ton1 ) was born 1835 and  died Jan 28, 1873;  aka Hum pah jinka which means Little Elk. He married Mary Louisa Baltimore  on 4/15/1859. She was born 1842 and died abt.1883.

Notes for George Lane3:

Witness to marriage in 1859  was George Lane’s brother Ernest Hunkah Kah hi chi.

Also,his brother John Hunka b. 1837 married Rosalia Lomblin Downey on same day. 

George Lane was paid as a blacksmith but was only a figurehead. He paid someone else to do the actual work.   See attached.

 

Notes for Mary Louisa Baltimore:

She married  (2) John Long aka  Hum pah see or Oh pah see  which means Elkfoot.He was Quapaw Indian.  John Long and Mary Louisa had a child Josephine Lane Long aka “Pah Skah”.  Mary Louisa  was on the Osage roll from 1874 after George Lane died until 1883.    Her parents were Louis Baltimore Sr. b. 1820  and Francoise Celeste Cardinal b. 1817. They both were French and Quapaw and Celeste was part Osage.

 

 

5.  John Hunka Hamoni  (Wah je hunkah)  3  (Wah tee zhe2 , Hec-kah-to1  ) was born 1838 and died 1867.  He married (1)  Nanton apic (2) Rosalia Downey on 4/15/1859.  She was born 1840.

Notes:

Wah je hunkah  means Ancestral Bird.  John Hunka died enroute to Wash DC in Jan. 1867 to discuss selling a portion of Quapaw reserve to the U.S.  He and Little Turtle had been selected by the tribe to represent them.  Samuel Valliere was interpreter.  Dorsey listed his name as Tu’ge snan’ka.

Notes for Ernest Hunka Kah hi chi:

On 1/25/1866, he suffered the penalty of death by hanging. See attached.

 

 

7.  Frances Lane Silk 3  female aka Me Dag a ney means Good Woman;  b. 1844 d. 6/14/1916. married  (1) Davis  (2)Jim Silk a Quapaw Indian aka Wah He sah, b. 1857 d. 1889. 

Married 1879.

Notes for Frances Silk:

No living children  on 1893 role.  Appears she was married (1) Davis. Divorced

Village Ford Farm was part of  her allotment-40 acres. 

1901 had a blacksmith shop on this land. 

1900 census she was a boarder of Ollie Medicine Buffalo b. 1868 and daughter of James Medicine and Mary Ann Joseph. Francis raised Mary Lane (Redeagle) until she died.

Osage Mission records shows Joseph Lane baptized in 1866 at 1 year old,  son of George Wat te che (Lane)  and Mary Louisa Baltimie.

 

Notes for Rosezella Chouteau:

Rosezella Chouteau’s father was James George Chouteau b. 1827 d. 9/17/1878 and mother was Mary Young, aka Zah me  meaning Beaver woman, FB Quapaw born in Arkansas in 1830  d. 11/26/1911.  They married 11/20/1865. James George enlisted on 4/25/1862 and  mustered out on 4/24/1865.

 

Mary Young, Zah-me means female beaver , was ½ sister to Tallchief’s mother Mi ska nahzhe.   

Mary Young’s first husband was  Dah Bah, Quapaw Indian.

After her mother died  around 1883 she became an orphan, she was then  raised by Paul and Mary Aken. Mary(Downey) Aken was her aunt on the Quapaw-Osage side.
